FAQs About Studying Spanish Abroad Following are some of the most frequently asked questions regarding life in Cusco:

1.Culture: Cusco is world-renowned for the cultural mix of traditional Andean and Incan traditions along with Spanish and Pacific cultures.

3.Travel and sightseeing opportunities: We work with the most highly-recommended and accredited travel agencies in Cusco. We can customize any voyage, excursion, or adventure travel you may desire.

4.Transportation: Taxis generally cost three soles, unless you are traveling a long distance or after 10:00 at night. Different from Europe or the United States, there is no additional charge for more than one passenger. Airport taxis are much more expensive, costing up to twenty soles to the city center. If you carry your luggage outside the airport boundaries, you can pay much less. We can also offer you personalized airport pick-up at a minimal cost.

5.Tipping: Tipping is generally not expected, except at high-level restaurants and hospitalities. It is best left to your own discretion.

6.Altitude sickness: At an altitude of 3,500 meters, your first few days in Cusco may bring on side-effects, such as headaches, shortness of breath, and general fatigue. There are several natural remedies for these problems, the most popular being mate de coca, or “coca tea,” and soriache pills.

7.Water: It is best to drink bottled water (one nuevo sol per bottle) or water that has been boiled. If you prefer your soft drinks cold, make sure that the restaurant you are attending uses purified water.

8.Food: There are several fine gourmet restaurants in Cusco, as well as smaller, well-regarded local establishments that offer traditional Peruvian dishes . Our staff will be glad to recommend places to dine. Foods sold on the street may be questionable, but, again, our staff can refer you to the most reliable vendors.

9.Health problems: We highly recommend that you purchase travelers’ insurance in case of unexpected problems, or consult your regular insurance carrier. In the unfortunate case that you do experience some sort of illness, the are several fine clinics that can resolve your problems. It is best to check beforehand which hospitals and clinics accept your insurance plans.
